no heat yet

It's almost the middle of November, and our heat still hasn't kicked on. Um, YEAH! I'm sure we will still have some big gas bill anyway because that's how it goes here, but it won't be as much as if we had the heat running. Daytime temps in the upper 50's and lower 60's have been wonderful!

Granted, we keep our house set at 17°C (62.something°F), and everyone makes fun of us and talks about having to wear multiple layers at our house. But our gas bill is cheaper than theirs. And it's still about three times as much as in the US. I wonder all the time how Hungarians, who keep their homes MUCH warmer than our house, can afford it. We make more money that a "good" salary here (which is roughly about the equivalent of $750), and we are constantly amazed at just how much more expensive everything here is. How do they do it?!

Anyway, I am glad for the warmer weather and am wondering how long they will stay. I love these temps. The kids love the temps. And my budget loves these temps. :)

I remember when I visited you in Buffalo and mom and dad told me to pack extra blankets because you keep your house so cold. I think I slept with long pants on, long sleeves, a sweatshirt, sleeping bag and three blankets. I was still frozen. :)

If it is any consolation, we haven't turned the heat on yet and we keep our window open at night :)
