reality check

I spent most of my day in the kitchen baking like a mad woman. I made over 4 dozen cupcakes, three batches of brownies, peanut butter bars, and dinner for 6 (all from scratch!). Our flat smells delicious! But because I was around the food all day, I totally forgot to even eat anything for breakfast or lunch myself. And that's not because I was sampling everything I made. Being around the food made me think that I had eaten, or something like that. But I ate a good dinner. I hope the kids at school like the food for Pi Day tomorrow!!! All of the food I baked is round...

And speaking of dinner, it was a fun time hanging out with the McLemore's. Pam and Oliver are expecting a baby (YEAH!), but Pam is currently on bedrest (BOO!). So we went over and had dinner with them and Whittington and their sister Alice who is visiting this week. We are super excited about this new baby to be born in the fall! We pray for God's continued protection for Pam and this baby.

I checked the price of the dollar as compared to the Hungarian forint today. NEM JÓ! Today it is 165 forints to the dollar, compared to almost 200 when we arrived. I looked it up on the internet, and in the past 5 years, it has never even come this low. Pam and I were talking about this, and she said that CNN said the dollar is the weakest it has EVER been!!!!!!!!!! That is so not good. Do you want to know what CNN also said about Americans living overseas?! They said it was the worst time for them (us!) to live overseas because our money is worth the least it's ever been. UGH!

As God continually reminds me how he has provided for our needs, he also brings this very familiar passage of Scripture to mind when I do start to worry:

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Matthew 6:25-34

And then I look at my son who doesn't worry about any of that, who really doesn't have a care in the world. He brings a smile to my face countless times every day, and I am so grateful for our little family! Life is precious. Here he is having a good time with Alice after dinner tonight!

Kristen, he is getting to be SO big! I can't believe it! :)

I love cooking days like that! I miss having time to do it. Having two makes it a little bit harder! bah! Keep up the good work!

I can say the dollar is weak, and we can see it! My grocery money isn't stretching nearly as far as it used to, and gas is up to $3.45/ gallon around here. It's insanity!

Yah, the US economy is really not doing well. I'd say that gas was super expensive, but gas over here is now $7.25 a gallon!
