Food

Today is our last day to have a car. I will miss not having one very much. I have no idea how I'm going to do some of the things now. It's easy to get a ride when you don't have a baby, so now it'll just be interesting. We are praying about purchasing a car, however, so pray that God would make it clear if we should or not. There is someone who has offered us his car, and although you couldn't find a car for that cheap in the States, it's still costs money.

Anyway, back to my topic on food. Since it is our last day with the car, I did one last trip to the HUGE grocery store in the car. I bought SO much food, more than I have ever bought in my entire life. The lady at the checkout felt so bad for me as she saw my overflowing cart and trying to do it all by myself. They don't bag groceries here for you, but this old lady felt so bad for me that she helped me bag them. That's the first time I have ever seen a cashier help in that way. Even if you're still bagging and they're finished ringing you up and just waiting for you to pay, they still won't help. The lady last week just picked at her fingernails. But I was so touched by this lady today who helped me. And although I didn't understand 98% of what she said (I did understand a word here and there!), I did try to communicate to her how truly grateful I was for her help. I would have been there all day otherwise.

But even more exciting than the lady helping me was that I was able to understand so many more food items I looked at this afternoon. Kevin and I have been working more diligently on learning vocabulary, and we started learning food last week. I was thrilled to be able to read the signs hanging above the produce and know the price I was paying for certain produce items. I also was finally able to read some of the hanging signs above the aisles to know what was down each aisle. But we learned the word "krumpli" for "potato," and I only saw the word "borgonya" on all the different potato signs today. Hmmm... All in all, though, it was wonderful.

Sometimes it's the little things that make my day!

Happy anniversary! Who would've thought 4 years ago you would be living in Hungary serving at ICSB with a precious little boy! Have a great day. We love you.
