auntie nusi

Nusi came to visit us today. This was her second time seeing little Seth. She also came to visit when my parents were here, which was fun after almost 10 years. But Seth loves his "Auntie Nusi" as he was so very good the whole time she was here. We had Chinese for lunch and had a nice time visiting. She is always helpful with language issues and questions we have. I learn new words and phrases every time we get together, and she explains the quirks of the language that we don't understand. It's wonderful! Nusi just cracks me up. Thanks for the laughs and the insights!

So Kevin and I are trying to learn the language. We would really like to take lessons, but the good ones cost a pretty penny (or should I say forint?!). Kevin has found some free online stuff that has been really good. You can get books or dictionaries, but you can't hear how to pronounce the words. And having certain digraphs that we don't have in English make it incredibly difficult to pronounce words if you don't know those. I think we have those digraphs down, but the vowel sounds are still killing us. We have been mainly working on simple vocabulary like numbers, colors, days of the week, and animals. We can currently go to a restaurant and do the basic things without using English, but once we get past ordering drinks, we end up just pointing and getting by with whatever else we can. It's worked for the most part so far, but we want to get better.

So I end with this... Kevin is on the phone with his mom (We LOVE Vonage!) and is talking about going to the bathroom (no surprise there). He is informing her, "I know where all the best toilets are." I guess this is in case they encounter problems when they come sometime this spring or summer. I have a feeling this is the sort of conversation I have to look forward to with Seth when he's older if he takes after his father. (By the way, there was a Seinfeld episode or two where George talks about his knowledge of the public restrooms in NYC. Kevin seems to know similar bits of info, only here and not there.)

Such cute pictures of the 2 of them!! :) Glad she was able to see your parents when they came out. And I must say... I don't think it gets any more hilarious than when Kevin speaks of bathroom fiascos :) Hope he's having a blast teaching Seth the basics!

Ok - I guess I need to speak up. I had no issues with the toilet at their apartment. Kevin had me paranoid so I used the school's the first couple of days, but it wasn't so bad. He just needs to learn to hold the chain longer to be sure the right amount of water comes through to push everything down!

Wow how cool to see a photo of Nusi after 10 years! Glad you had a nice Christmas in spite of being far from home. Having a little baby at the holiday reframes the Christmas story in a whole new way, doesn't it?

I held the chain until the water stopped 5 different times, and the poop didn't move. I guess I am a bigger man than you with bigger bowel movements.
