Salzburg

I've been absent this week from blogging because we were out of town! We decided to take the money we earned babysitting and take a trip to Salzburg, which has been a desire of mine since I was little. Of course the main reason is because of "The Sound of Music," but I really wanted to see the city and the Alps, too. :)

We had a great time, once we got there. Our rental car broke down on the way there. Not good. Praise the Lord that it broke down right before the Austrian border because our cell phone doesn't work outside of the country. (It's supposed to but I don't know how to get it to work, and all the directions are in Hungarian.) But the Lord saw fit that if we had to break down, that it was in Hungary. We didn't break down at a gas station or near one, but we did break down right after an overpass that had a fence around the property and a place to park a little off the highway. The gate was unlocked, and we climbed the steps to the overpass and didn't have to wait in the car for hours. The overpass wasn't a main road for driving but for getting farming equipment from one side to the other, thus allowing us to roam about. Praise the Lord!

The weather was gorgeous that day, which was good since we had to wait for hours. I called at 2:45 to tell them the car broke down. They said they'd be there between 5 and 5:30. I wasn't looking forward to the wait but knew it'd be okay. They didn't show up until 7:30! They brought a new and better car for us to take, although I had great doubts of continuing. We got back on the road at 8:30 and arrived in Salzburg just after midnight. Long day.

All in all we had a fabulous time there, though. The weather was fantastic for our entire stay, sunny and in the 70's! We sat outside at cafe's for every meal, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Seth was an amazing kid the whole time as well. He was excited to climb in his stroller every morning to head out and see the city. He got to run around town as well, but he happily got back in his stroller once he needed to and without whining. I was surprised. What a great kid!

Of course I took "The Sound of Music" tour. It was 4 hours, and we had a great tour guide. He was so funny and full of all sorts of random facts and information, not just about the movie but all sorts of things in life. He definitely made it a pleasant experience. I sat on the bus next to an Irish woman, and she was fantastic, too. And yes, we did sing on the bus. It was fun!

Kevin said I will be the most annoying person to watch the movie with now that I have been there and seen everything. I am looking forward to watching it soon if I can find someone who has it. (I have had three copies of it but all on VHS and therefore not here!)

Salzburg is just a beautiful city situated on the northern side of the Alps. Kevin says that he wants to retire there. :) Glad we were able to go. It might be my favorite place thus far, but I can't decide. There is so much beauty everywhere here. We did comment though how much more beautiful Budapest is at night along the river. I haven't seen a city that rivals it yet in that way.

School starts back up on Monday, but there are only 7 weeks left of school. Then we had back to the States! We have a few more weeks of babysitting coming up, so it's going to be a busy seven weeks.
