the first christmas

Yesterday was a Christmas filled with firsts. It was Seth's first Christmas. It was our first Christmas as parents. It was our first Christmas in Hungary. It was the first Christmas that either of us have ever spent without family. It was the first Christmas for me to have a real Christmas tree.

Despite not being with family, we did have a wonderful day with the Lang family. We also spent Thanksgiving with them, and they are just such a great family to be around. Becky is a phenomenal cook, so we always enjoy going over there to eat. Their two children Miriam and Zach are absolutely hilarious, and being around a four and five year old at Christmas was super fun. I look forward to when Seth is old enough to be understand and be excited for Christmas.

We spent all day over there, after we spent time together just the three of us in the morning. I got to help Zach put together some of the Lego things he got for Christmas, which is always fun for me. My family can attest to how much I love Lego's. Aaron and Kevin cracked lots of jokes. Both of them teach math at the school and coach basketball... Very similar sense of humor. Becky and I rolled our eyes a lot, but we do love them! By the way, Becky was also a second grade teacher before she had children. They are from the Columbus area as well and are huge Buckeye fans. They were missionaries in Lithuania before they moved here 5 years ago. We have lots in common with this wonderful family. They have been a huge God send to us. I don't even know how to thank them for all they have done for us.

But all of these firsts yesterday led me to recall the very first Christmas when Christ was born. Having a newborn myself this Christmas really put new meaning into it for me this year as I can only imagine what Mary must have felt like after carrying and giving birth to a baby who would be the Savior of the world. Just incredible to think about. I think about my own worries of being a parent and all the mistakes I will make, and I am sure Mary and Joseph were just as anxious, only their son was perfect, both God and man. At least I don't have that pressure! But God in his infinite wisdom chose them to raise Jesus. What an honor! I pray for wisdom to raise Seth in a way that is pleasing to the Lord and that he will come to accept Christ as his Savior at an early age. But in the meantime, he is sleeping peacefully next to his daddy. "Sleep in Heavenly peace..."

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Yes, you do love lego's! You were also such a mean sister growing up concerning lego's. You would steal the lego's from me to make your house look better. Or you would try to trade "bad" lego's from me to make your house look better. It was always about your house looking the best and my house looking very bad. It made me cry. I think back even to three years ago, you were building a lego house for Bri and Kevin and I were sitting there watching. You were very angry with your husband for taking a lego from you! Now the world knows your dark side...

Yes, I can admit that I was terrible when it came to Lego's, and I do so apologize to you little sister for being mean that way. Will you ever forgive me?! :)

HECK YES - I love Legos :) I remember being at your house a few times when we were younger, building our houses and taking the pieces that we needed... even if they belonged to someone else. HAHAHA! Sorry, Stef... sometimes you've gotta be ruthless ;)
