all saints day

We don't have school today or tomorrow because it is All Saints Day. This is a day where they honor all of the saints. The custom in Hungary is that people will visit the graves of dead relatives on this day. They decorate the graves with flowers and candles and many offer prayers on their behalf. Any cemetery you pass by is decorated unlike anything you've ever seen.

Some of you had asked if the kids dress up and go trick-or-treating on Halloween here. The answer is no. Well, I should say that it is a fad in some areas where there are Americans living. They know that it exists in the US, but they don't really know when it is or much about it. I have been told that we might get some random knocks from kids over the next week or so for those few kids who decide to try it out. The US Embassy had a huge party last night for the kids living on the compound, but that's because it is all Americans living there.
